Highest Mileage Privately Owned GT-R ?

Chris - illpayne - just hit 20,000 miles in his R35 GT-R. Inside Lines car has a little over 21,000 miles on it, but their car is driven by a gaggle of journalists. Chris has done a number of track days in the car, and he says he is really enjoying it.

He has even gone off roading in it.

Nissan GT-R vs DBS vs CTS-V vs SL63

Car Middle East pitted a Nissan GT-R vs an Aston Martin DBS , Cadillac CTS-V , and a Mercedes SL63. Interesting combination of cars to put together. Car drives them though from Jebel Ali over the Kalba Road. Overall they liked the car.

So all four contenders can stop, go and turn with varying degrees of sophistication. But they all feel very different to drive. The Cadillac is the brawniest and hairiest of the bunch – you have to put your trust in physics and the engineering of rear-driving boats to make the most of it. But, for me, it was the most difficult to get into the groove of and drive fast.

No such problems in the GT-R. In fact, within an hour of me collecting the car from Nissan Middle East’s head office in Jebel Ali, I was storming along the Kalba road at quite ridiculous speeds. Over the coming days

I learnt to put more and more trust in the GT-R, resulting in me travelling through the mountains at higher and higher speeds. At times, I just couldn’t believe the numbers on the speedometer.

I’ve never found myself so at ease with a car so quickly. But that’s not to say it’s to everyone’s tastes, editorial director Shahzad found it to be an impressive car, but it scared him. In fact, the GT-R caused him to drop his usual mild-mannered demeanour and turn him into a bit of a potty mouth. You can read more of his thoughts on the website.

But for me, nothing came anywhere near close to the all-round abilities of the GT-R. It’s one of the most complete cars around. To me, it looks absolutely mega in its Manga-esque styling, and though I could forgo the central graphical display for some proper dials and gauges, I can’t fault it.

The GT-R was created by Nissan with the mantra of ‘21st-century supercar’ in mind. That it is, and so much more. A true modern great.

10.31@131 mph. New Quickest GT-R from MVP

MVP Motorsports took their R35 GT-R to the dragstrip and set a new record with a 10.31@131 mph pass. MVP is well known in the Toyota Supra world, and is just getting started in the GT-R field.

20333 miles and Inside Line decided to test the 0-170 time of their long term GT-R.

33 seconds isn't slow. Now all they need is an Access Port, and an exhaust to wake it up a bit.

Nissan Press Release - 7.26.7 Nurburgring Lap Time

Nissan only waited a little while to put this out. I wonder what other times they are holding in their back pockets. Also no mention of the Spec V times. No information if the car was on the Spec V wheels and standard tires.

The NISSAN GT-R, winner of the 2009 World Performance Car of the Year, has improved its lap time at the renowned Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany to 7min 26 seconds 70 on April 23.

This new time underlines Nissan engineering team’s commitment to constantly challenge the GT-R’s performance. Previous recorded lap times at the ’Ring’ were:

* 7 minutes 27 seconds 56 on April 15, 2009
* 7 minutes 29 in April 2008
* 7 minutes 38 in September 2007

"This record demonstrates our commitment to the continuous evolution of the Nissan GT-R," says Kazutoshi Mizuno, Chief Vehicle Engineer and Chief Vehicle Specialist. "We would like to continue delivering the passion and pride of ownership to our customers by improving its performance every year."

The Nissan GT-R has won more than a dozen awards globally including Car of the Year from CAR Magazine in the UK, and Car of the Year by both Motor Trend and Autombile Magazine in the US.

While the Nissan GT-R benefits from a strong image and heritage amongst performance car aficionados, its updated 2010 version will be the first to be sold globally. It was launched:

Continental GTR Wins Overall at 2009 One Lap of America Competition

Fort Mill, SC – (May 13, 2009) – A 2009 Nissan GT-R equipped with Continental Tire ContiSportContact 3 ultra-high performance tires won top overall honors at the 2009 Tire Rack One Lap of America presented by Motor Trend competition. Driven by Steven Rankins and Will Taylor, the GT-R racked up 5215 overall points to take the win. When the smoke had cleared, Rankins and Taylor had won seven out of 17 timed events; they also had seven second-place finishes as well as one third.

Tire Rack One Lap of America is eight days of competition featuring some of the fastest street-legal cars, on a number of America's most challenging racetracks. This year's event tested the endurance of a field of 63 vehicles and their drivers who travelled nearly 3,400 miles from venue to venue at legal speeds, while measuring their performance during skidpad and autocross competition, as well as drag, oval and open track road racing.

In the first event of the week-long competition, the Nissan grabbed first place while setting an event record in a Wet Skid Pad Shootout, and held on to take the overall and class championship crowns following the final Dry Skid Pad Shootout at Tire Rack’s South Bend, Indiana headquarters on Saturday, May 9th.

The team took best in the SSGT-1Big Bore Class, with a two-way wet cornering average of 0.953 g’s. The Nissan’s cornering capability broke the previous One Lap of America and Tire Rack wet track record of 0.930 g’s set by Glen Clark in 2004 driving a 1979 Porsche 911.

“This is such a gratifying win for Continental and the ContiSportContact family of tires,” said Robert Liu, technical product manager, passenger tires. “This tire is specifically-engineered to deliver enhanced handling characteristics and powerful grip on dry and wet roads, so this win really reinforces what our engineers set out to do in creating this outstanding tire.”

Wheels Magazine - May 2009 -

While I was in Australia I picked up a copy of Wheels Magazine . On the cover they have an R35 GT-R and one of the Gibson Motorsport R32 GT-R Australian touring cars. In the issue Mark Skaife,one of the original drivers of the R32 drives the R35 and R32 on Oran Park

Mark Skaife took the R35 GT-R around the track at Oran Park and managed a 1:18.0 on Bridgestone tires. The R32 GT-R qualified with a 1:10.0 in 1992 trumping the field then.

The green Freedom Autosport GT-R fell victim to a faulty aftermarket boost controller during opening laps, forcing the engine into limp mode and a 18th place finish. Even with a remedy, the team's hopes of an overall One Lap win are fading. "We're so far behind, I'm just going to go sabotage other cars," Troy Fralick said with a laugh.

One Lap Of America - Motor Trend Updates

Some updates from Motor Trend for the One Lap of America. There are two Nissan GT-R's in the event , green and grey.

The grey GT-R sets a new wet skidpad record of 0.953 g putting it in first place.

At the Autocross course...

Rankins and Taylor return to the No. 1 spot, setting a 38.999-sec best lap on their third run at Turfway Park's autocross circuit in Florence, Kentucky.

VIP Petfoods R35 GT-R Wins Targa Tasmania

Sorry for being a little slow on the news, I am actually in Australia now.

Tony Quinn wins the Targa Tasmania by 6 minutes over Jason White in a Lamborghini Superleggera.

Quinn, a former Targa New Zealand winner, threw down the gauntlet on the first stage just outside Strahan, beating Weeks by 11 seconds to reclaim the lead.

Weeks set off in pursuit, but he and co-driver, Bec Crunkhorn, crashed their Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera into trees near the end of the Queenstown stage.

Medical crew were quickly on the scene to assist Weeks and Crunkhorn. Both were conscious and talking to the rescuers before being airlifted to Hobart General Hospital for further medical assessment; their dream of a first Targa title in tatters.

Quinn’s lead was then out to nearly four minutes and, with the Lamborghini of Jason White behind him experiencing major brake problems, he was able to cruise in to Hobart to collect the spoils of victory.

“Our strategy was always to keep up with the others and if we got the wet weather over the last day or two, just to have a lunge for it,” Quinn said.

“I’ve always been bridesmaid to Jim (Richards) or the Whites or somebody else, and we’re very pleased to finally win it. It hasn’t sunk in yet and it feels like it’s been the toughest and most competitive week there’s every been in Targa.
