First : Tune Only GT-R in the 10’s Video

 

19773-2009-Nissan-GT-R A minimally modified Nissan GT-R ran a 10 second 1/4 mile time at Palm Beach International Raceway. The air was good as the D/A was –68 feet.  The only modifications were a Cobb Accessport, a custom tune, K and N drop in air filters, and PS2 tires.  I have always said that “red is faster.”. This car is proof that red cars are actually faster.

Autozeitung Magazine Test - 997.2 Turbo vs GTR vs Audi vs Aston vs Jaguar

The new direct injection Porsche 911 TT is faster in a straight line, the GT-R is faster on the track. The GT-R is running the Dunlop tires, which are quicker than the Bridgestones.  The P car guys will continue to hate on the GT-R. Cheaper, faster, and easier to drive.  I am not sure when easier to drive fast became an issue rather than a compliment.

Stillen Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit Priced

Carbon Ceramic brakes used to be only found on top of the line street and racing cars. Stillen is working with AP Racing on a set of aftermarket brake rotors for the Nissan GT-R. 
Carbon-Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes have been developed for the first specifically-tuned aftermarket application – the Nissan R35 GT-R. These 400mm disc assemblies are 20mm larger than the standard 380mm OE iron discs, yet reduce weight by nearly half. This is rotating and unsprung weight, leading to improvements in all performance categories: acceleration, handling and braking.
Stillen has priced their Carbon Ceramic Brake kit at $15,990. While expensive for a set of rotors, the kit has been proven in the Targa Newfoundland Rally. The CCM brakes life is greatly improved over an iron disc.  With the prices of a stock set of rotors and pads for an R35 from a Nissan dealer, a track junkie will be able to pay off the price of this kit within a few good track weekends.

Chrome wrapped Nissan GT-R

This post should be titled “How to blind other drivers.” However, since its never really that sunny in the UK, this chrome wrap may be ok.   Interesting and unique are a few of the words that would have been thrown around.

It is said to have taken 2 weeks to complete, and the owner did the wrap after they got bored of the previous matte white wrap. I would not have wanted to being the guy applying this wrap. The chrome vinyl is pretty thick and it doesn’t like to wrap around curves much.  At the 2009 SEMA show, I did see some chrome paint on a car, its just not the normal, or easy thing to do, so most people won’t attempt a whole chrome paint job.

DSPORT Nissan Skyline GT-R 9.86 @ 145 mph : Battle of the Imports

DSPORT Nissan Skyline GT-R 9.86 @ 145 mph : Battle of the Imports November 2009. DSPORT R33 GT-R vs the YoParts R35 GT-R. The R35 got a bad start and Ed Bergenholtz let off. This was the best pass for the DSPORT R33 this day.  New Nitto drag radials were on the car. The NT05R. Very soft, big wide strip of rubber in the middle . The launches for the R33 were a little soft all day. Mike worked on it, but did not end up improving on this pass. This is the quickest pass for this car improving on its previous best 9.98 pass.

Redline Time Attack Finals Video

Kunani posted this video from the Redline Time Attack finals. Lots of R35's on the track. The GOTO racing R35 lost a right rear tire. The high speeds and loading from the roval seemed to take its toll on that tire.

Cosworth Nissan GT-R VR38DETT Head Gaskets : SEMA 2009

 

Cosworth showed their new head gaskets for the VR38DETT engine at the 2009 SEMA Show. There were not many details available at the show, but Cosworth products are always top notch, tested and engineered parts.

Cosworth High Performance Head Gaskets are engineered to seal in power under the most demanding conditions. Constructed from stainless steel with a folded stopper layer, each application features superior sealing compared to conventional multi layer steel gaskets. Additionally, Cosworth High Performance Head Gaskets are manufactured from pre-coated die cut stainless steel resulting in uniform coating distribution and consistent shape.

Dynamic Autosports/ Hankook Tire Nissan GT-R for Formula Drift

At the 2009 SEMA show in the Hankook booth, Dynamic Autosports presented their 2009 Nissan GT-R for the 2010 Formula Drift Season. According to the information in the booth, the car will be powered by a stroked VQ engine from a Nissan 350Z, and use a G-Force transmission. This will help keep the costs down, and will allow Dynamic Autosports to run a drift proven setup. They did not rule out running a VR engine in the future.  Come back here to the blog for some more information prior to the 2010 Formula Drift season.

4.0 Liter Stroker Kit for VR38DETT From JUN

JUN is showing their new 4.0 liter stroker kit for the VR38DETT at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. There is no replacement for displacement, and this looks like a good way to bump the 3.8 up to 4.0 liters.   We can’t wait to see some results with the kits, and other modifications coming for the R35 soon.  Bore and stroke ? Well we asked but didn’t get an answer in the JUN booth.

SEMA Show 2009 : Day 1 Pictures

A few pictures of things from the 2009 SEMA show in Las Vegas. This is my 12th year going to the show, and unlike most years, it is not bigger than the previous year. Its pretty obvious that traffic is lighter, and booth count is down. Some halls have whole sections curtained off. State of the economy.

Lots and lots and lots of 2010 Camaros at the show. There must be about 70 of them at the show. Maybe more. A good number of R35 GT-R's, and Hyundai Genesis Coupes.
