Nissan GT-R review - Telegraph.UK

Everywhere you go, men and women gawp. In red, it hurts your eyes, colour exploding everywhere, from its fat rear and muscular haunches to its broad snout and gaping mouth.

It eats road and air and you have to squeeze it along Britain's narrow roads, all the while wishing you were actually on the fearsome Nürburgring circuit in Germany, where the GT-R holds the lap record.

There were little moments of satisfaction along the way: the thumbs up and questions from passers-by, the neat nudge of the flappy paddles to select one of the six gears from the dual-clutch transmission, the surprisingly cavernous boot, the digital display showing throttle and brake use, the endless stream of power at motorway speeds but it feels too wide, and the ride way too hard, to use every day. More's the pity.

7:38 at Nurburgring by Sport Auto

The rumors of a 7:38 laptime at Nurburgring by Sport Auto were true. On Dunlop tires, Sport Auto managed a 7:38 time with a European spec R35 GT-R.

The driver of the car for the test has over 10 years experience on the Nurburgring. So does this help or hurt Porsches case ? Porsche said they couldn't get within 25 seconds of Nissans claimed time of 7:29.

Some pictures of the magazine article in German. Overall it was said, they really like the car.

BMW M6 vs Ford Focus RS vs Lotus Exige Cup 260 vs Nissan GTR vs 911 GT3

A translated article from German to English pitting the BMW M6 vs Ford Focus RS vs Lotus Exige Cup 260 vs Nissan GTR vs 911 GT3 together in a no holds barred death match. Or maybe just some track driving and impressions.

Five cars with a total of 1993 hp and 31 cylinders. An impressive number, without the problems could still increase. But in this Test Track is not the pure in heart performance. There is much more about different approaches in Sportwagenbau - from only 860 kilos heavy Lotus Exige Cup 260 to bear the heavy BMW M6 with 507 hp and Competition package.

The two stars in the starting field but the new Nissan GT-R with Biturbo and all-wheel drive and the Porsche 911 GT3 established with rear wheel drive and rear engine. In addition there is the new Ford Focus RS, the 305 hp at the top of the sport compact stands. His performance, he brings only the front wheels on the race track. Completely hopeless? By no means: For all tests, the RS with its performance and driving dynamics enthusiasm

20 hp Gain with AMS Cast Downpipes .

AMS Performance posted up a dynochart comparing a car with mods and stock downpipes to an AMS cast downpipe. They had some pretty impressive gains in spool up time, and horsepower.

Mods to the car were :

AMS Turbo's
850cc injectors
AMS Mid pipe and exhaust
Cobb Access port with an AMS/Forged Performance tune

587 whp and 555 ft lbs of torque

Click though for Cast downpipes dynochart after the jump.

The turbo's are spooling 500 rpm quicker and the mid range is just INSANE!!! Previously at 3500 rpm we were seeing about 10 psi of boost. With the downpipes we are now seeing 20! up top you can see a 25 - 25 whp gain just about EVERYWHERE!

500GB 1/18th Scale Nissan GT-R

I saw this over at GT-R Blog and found it interesting. If you want to have a unique 500 GB external drive, heres one for you.

This is one of the coolest things I've made. The GT-R is an awesome car and the Jada 1:18 diecast model represents the car very well. The car is highly detailed with an opening hood, doors and trunk. The best part is I have integrated a brand new Seagate 500 GB (thats gigs, not megs) hard drive in the car. Its currently the largest storage size, 2.5 inch hard drive made. It connects to your computer by USB 2.0 in the back of the car where the license plate goes. Its super fast and super cool. The drive is not visible and has not made a noticeable appearance change in the interior of the car. Its comes with a high speed 6 ft USB cable. As far as I know, this is the first ever hard drive/car made and its an awesome one!!!

Spec V vs Standard GT-R Turbos

Over at GTR Blog , via the Garage Saurus Website, they posted up some pictures of the exhaust side of the Spec V turbo vs the Standard GT-R turbo. The pictures clearly show that the exhaust wheel in the Spec V is larger than the exhaust wheel in the standard car. A bigger exhaust wheel means less restriction, which should mean a little slower response down low, but a stronger top end charge. I would like to see some dyno charts of the Spec V, and then a Spec V with a little more boost.

Bigger is better.

Nissan R35 GT-R in the Junkyard

The story is that a car rolled onto the GT-R during a trackday. Thats what it says, and I guess I will run with that story.

Death of a GT-R

Nissan GT-R Tops the List Again...

The Nissan GT-R tops the list of cars most expensive to insure. Beating even the Dodge Viper.

From 2009 Nissan GT-R

Topping the "most expensive to insure" list is the Nissan GT-R, which Nissan bills as a "multi performance supercar" that delivers fantasy driving. Its average annual premium is $2,533. Compare that price to the lowest-premium vehicle, the Hyundai Santa Fe at $832, and you can see how your car choice can deliver a surprising insurance bill.

The GT-R's supercharged engine helped drive it to the top of the list. It's a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged 24-valve V6 with 485 horsepower. Compare that to the Honda Accord Coupe EX-L V6, with a horsepower of 271. Or take the Smart Fortwo, the smallest car available and one of the least expensive to insure, which has 71 horsepower.

Owners of the GT-R buy it for power and speed, and their driving habits are often reflected in frequent and expensive insurance claims.

GT-R owners who are young with less-than-spotless driving records could easily see their annual car insurance premiums zoom to several thousand dollars.

The full press release after the jump.

Sports cars dominate the "most expensive" roster, along with theft favorites like the Cadillac Escalade.

The 20 most expensive 2009 vehicles to insure

Average Vehicle Class
Rank Premium
1 $2,533 Nissan GT-R Sports car
2 $2,446 Dodge Viper Sports car
3 $2,236 BMW M6 Sports car
4 $2,186 Ford Shelby GT500 Sports car
5 $2,088 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Large SUV
6 $2,071 Audi S8 Passenger car
7 $2,020 BMW M5 Sports car
8 $1,912 Hummer H2 Large SUV
9 $1,881 Lexus ISF Sports car
10 $1,819 Porsche 911 Sports car
11 $1,762 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Sports car
12 $1,717 Jaguar XK Series Sports car
13 $1,714 BMW M3 Sports car
14 $1,694 Cadillac XLR Sports car
15 $1,637 Audi R8 Sports car
16 $1,603 Land Rover Range Rover Large SUV
17 $1,592 Cadillac Escalade EXT Truck
18 $1,587 Honda S2000 Sports car
19 $1,584 BMW X6 Large SUV
20 $1,577 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Passenger car

If low premiums are more your speed, the "least expensive" list contains a good selection of SUVs, minivans and passenger cars. Low insurance rates tend to reflect a vehicle's safety because drivers of those models have submitted fewer and less-expensive insurance claims.

The 20 least expensive 2009 vehicles to insure

Average Vehicle Class
Rank Premium
1 $832 Hyundai Santa Fe Midsize SUV
2 $840 Kia Sportage Small SUV

STILLEN Releases R35 Nissan GT-R 304 Stainless Exhaust System

STILLEN Releases R35 Nissan GT-R 304 Stainless Exhaust System

STILLEN is proud to offer the premier exhaust system for the 2009 Nissan GT-R. After many different styles and months of development Steve Millen and the engineers at STILLEN have come up with an exhaust system that offers increased performance, race-car sounds, unmatched quality and ‘work of art’ appearance.

This exhaust system is constructed out of high luster polished 304 Stainless Steel. During the production process the rear exhaust components are polished five times to ensure a brilliant finish and to make sure that every part of the exhaust exudes excellence.

To ensure superior quality the exhaust is TIG welded by hand and the weld ‘burns’ are left to maintain the race car heritage and look of the Nissan GT-R.

The exhaust has been tested and tuned to offer superior performance and sound while offering a reasonable price. This exhaust comes with a lifetime warranty and is supported by years of racing experience from the experts at STILLEN.

$2475 from Stillen.
