Nissan GT-R vs Rocket

Nissan GT-R vs Bottle Rocket
The group over at Fast, Furious, and Funny pitted a Nissan GT-R vs a wire guided bottle rocket in a race, because, why not?  Rolling start, with the rocket being fired when the GT-R went past.  You can even rent the Nissan GT-R in the video, if you are in the UK.  Check out the video below.

Eight Second Nissan GT-R From the Middle East

Eights are dropping everywhere around the world with R35 GT-R's.  In this video Ekanoo Racing's Orange Beast runs a 8.96@164 mph pass. One of the shifts even sounded a little slow, so it should have even a bit more in it.

Congratulations to them on the eight second pass.

Carscoop Renders a 2017 Nissan GT-R

2017 Nissan GT-R - EBA ? Renderings Copyright: CarScoop / Josh Byrnes
Carscoop has rendered what they think the 2017 Nissan GT-R will look like.  The front looks really heavy. A little too much emphasis there. The roof and roof line looks like a little bit of a cut down current car. The belt line is high, but the roof is low. The roof itself has a pronounced lower section in the middle, similar to what we are seeing on some other current cars.   I am no Aerodynamicist, but I know a few, and it seems like this render might be going backwards from an aero standpoint.  The rear air vents might be able to be used for cooling the transaxle, or the brakes, but it really doesn't need that much air to the back. Its a front engine car, not a mid engine car.

The front is very wide, with a lot of opening. Good for cooling, bad for aero. Hopefully some of those grills are used to cool the brakes, one of the R35's weak spots. It feels Jaguaresque in the front.
2014 Nissan GT-R - DBA

For example, the grille has evolved from a simple-edged opening into an multi-curved shield graphic. This is aided by large side intakes incorporating DRL's, with outer character lines sweeping over the front wheel arches. The headlights are a more radical take on Nissan's current design theme; the angular details and graphics make a statement against the more mainstream headlight affairs. Whilst the cabin greenhouse carries similarities with the current car, the roofline has been massaged - now incorporating driver and passenger domes for increased dynamic vibrancy.
The angled, vertical vent behind the front wheels has been re-formed; now with a character line spreading back into the rear air-intake scoop. This area in the current car is rather flat; so to increase visual impact, the outer edge of the rear vents float over the bodywork, leading up into the roofline.

Head over to Carscoop and let them know what you think.

AMS Alpha 12 GT-R: Breaking Down a 10 Second 1/4 Mile : Motor Trend

AMS Alpha 12 Nissan GT-R

On this Episode of Ignition from Motor Trend, they take an AMS Alpha 12 Nissan GT-R, and run it on an airstrip. I think they forgot to mention, but the comments section say the car was on 91 octane fuel.  Not too slow for 91 octane.  Check out the video after the break.

On this episode of Ignition, Carlos Lago flogs the 1000+ horsepower AMS Alpha 12 GT-R up and down the runway in pursuit of a sub-10 second quarter mile. Putting that much power to the pavement is no easy task, so Martin Musial of AMS helps break down the challenges they faced in raising the Nissan's already high level of performance to a whole new level.

Ignition appears every Monday on the Motor Trend youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/motortrend

Stock Turbos : 9.79@140 MPH

AWD Motorsports brought their stock turbo, stock engine, stock transmission Nissan GT-R out to the drag strip and set a new bar.  This does feel a little like the Toyota Supra world of old. Pushing all the stock parts to the limits to prove a point. Eventually there are some failures, that are normally covered up because there is someone else that goes faster on stock parts. It is neat to go this fast on stock parts, but honestly they never last long if you run them this hard. Anyone that tells you otherwise, doesn't live in the real world. There are low's to come along with the highs.

Nissan GT-R vs. Mercedes C63 AMG Black Series, the $100,000 showdown: Motoramic TV

Nissan GT-R hanging it out
Ezra Dyer from Motoramic asks which $100,000 performance car would you rather have. The Nissan GT-R Black Edition, or the Mercedes C63 Black Series.  Check out the video below and article for his full impressions, and see if you agree.

The GT-R and C63 Black approach the muscle-coupe question from completely different angles. Rear-wheel-drive versus all-wheel-drive. Automatic transmission versus dual-clutch sequential. Honkin’ huge naturally aspirated V-8 versus turbo V-6. Analog versus digital, really. The GT-R is clearly faster, but is it more fun?

DRAG RACE - Lamborghini Reventon Roadster vs Nissan GT-R vs Ducati 1098

Ran across this video on You Tube. A tuned Nissan GT-R(580 horsepower) with LC5, vs a Ducatti 1098 and a Lamborghini Reventon Roadster on a runway. Bikes are fast, but they do have a large amount of aerodynamic drag at high speed. This is seen in the first video.  Check it out below.

The R's Tuning R35 GT-R Featured in Fast and Furious 6

Fast and Furious 6 Nissan GT-R with Ben Sopra bodykit from R's Tuning
The Fast and Furious series. Say what you want about it, for me personally its been a pretty fun ride. From 1,2,3,and 4, I had a little bit of involvement with some vehicles in the films(Big Bird, Blackbird, RB Mustang,Technical Advisor for the insert unit).  Fast and Furious 6 is set to release May 24th, and one of the cars that is featured in the film, is the Ben Sopra bodykitted, Switzer P800, R's Tuning R35.  SP Engineering recently put up a blog post on the car, that was picked up by blogs around the world. I think the car only had a pretty minor role in the film, but "featured" is a good word.

Remember when this was red?

On October 21, 2011, the Los Angeles Times reported that Universal was considering filming two sequels—Fast Six andFast Sevenback to back with a single story running through both films; both written by Morgan and directed by Lin.[14] On December 20, 2011, Diesel confirmed that Fast Six would be split into two parts, with writing for the two films occurring simultaneously. On the decision, Diesel said:[15]
We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages...The studio said, 'You can't fit all that story in one damn movie!'[15]

Looks like its not just 6, but 7 coming at us too. And remember, the movies are entertainment, not documentary's. If they were documentary's no one would go and see them.

DuPont Registry Covers the Red Katana

Switzer R1K-X Red Katana Nissan GT-R
DuPont Registry's tagline is a buyers gallery of fine automobiles. They run a magazine/wishlist of cars and an online sellers gallery. Our friends at Switzer Performance were included in one of DuPont's recent blog posts with the 1400 horsepower R1K-X "Red Katana" Nissan Skyline GT-R. Its an 8 second street car, that weighs several hundred more pounds than a stock car.

When most people see a new, hot car in an article - they skip through the write-up and go straight for the performance specs. Is that you? If it is, this is what you want to know about Switzer's latest R35 GTR conversion, the R1K-X: it makes over 1400 horsepower, and you can drive it to a dragstrip, crack off back-to-back-to-back 1/4 miles in the 8.8-9.0 second range at 163-165 mph, then it drive home with the A/C on. There's more to Switzer's pavement-shredding R1K-X GTRs than specs, however. Take, for example, included in the pictures. Its owner calls it "Red Katana". It's one of the first production Switzer R1K-X GTR Nissans, and almost every inch of the car, under and over the skin, has been "touched", making it truly unique.
Head over for the full article.

1972 Nissan Skyline : Gold KGC10

1972 Nissan Skyline KGC10
Check out this 1972 Nissan Skyline KGC10 that is going up for sale at auction this week.
Over fenders - Check
Wing mirrors- Check
Front air dam - Check
Wide low offset wheels - Check
GT-R look - Check

The color looks a bit like EY0 - Silica Breath, from the R34 15 inch Work Wheels top out the package. Going by past auction results, these average about 2.8 million yen, or about $32,000 US dollars. These are not even the actual Nissan Skyline GT-R's. A real 1972 KPCG-10 - Nissan Skyline GT-R, of which only 515 were made, trade hands for around $100,000 in Japan.

In the United States vehicles over twenty five years old are Department of Transportation (DOT) exempt from meeting Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards(FMVSS). At over twenty one years old cars are Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) exempt. To meet California smog exemption requirements, the car must be older than 1976. To have a newer car meet California requirements, it is more expensive, and sometimes very difficult to comply. If the car is newer than 25 years old, it still might be possible to import it under the Show or Display exemption.

International Vehicle Importers is now working with a company in Japan, R- International, which gives you direct access to Japanese car auctions. Sign up on their website, for a free preview of the dealer auctions. There are thousands of cars daily available at auction.

Nismo Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 Brochure From 1990

Another thing from the Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R Owners Bible, the Nismo brochure, and optional parts. Someone on YouTube asked me if the Nismo came with a 260 km/hr or 320 km/hr speedometer. My car #500 has a 180 km/hr(111 mph) speedo in it. #383 has a 320 km/hr(198 mph) speedo. It seems the 260 km/hr(161 mph) was an option according to this brochure. I think the 320 km/hr speedo must have come later in the production run.  The 1990 Nismo Nissan Skyline GT-R is legal to import to the US under the Show or Display exemption.

Nismo Skyline Optional Parts
Calsonic Group A R32 GT-R and Nismo optional parts brochure
Some interesting parts in the options list. A few of them I can't say I have seen. The first thing looks like an intercooler, however the Skyline GT-R intercooler runs across the car, in the left side out the opposite side on the right. That looks like it comes in the top and out the back of the right side. The cool oil cooler and A/C condenser is something that we put on the R32.4.  The 260 km/hr speedo cluster is there. The wing is an odd one. Can't say I remember seeing that with the 3rd brake light in it.

If you are interested in importing your own R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R, there are a few options. Either you can import a Nismo R32 Skyline GT-R under Show or Display, or you can import a 1989 Nissan Skyline GT-R in 2014 under the 25 year exemption for NHTSA/DOT, and its over 21 years old for the EPA. The R32 was first sold in August of 1989. Here is a production chart showing the chassis numbers produced each month.

The "New" Hulk GT-R from SVM

The "Hulk" wearing all new carbon fiber parts
I really like the carbon/kevlar fender liners in this "new" Hulk from SVM in the UK. Its a nice attention to detail.  Its going to be on display at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham,UK this weekend January 12th, and 13th.  They say they are shooting for 1600 horsepower. It would be cool to be able to see a weight on the car. Get it to an insane power/weight ratio.
Stock brake calipers. Look like Dynamic suspension. Line lock on the brake line. Kevlar fender liner
