Inside Line : Unboxing the Infiniti Essence

Inside Line got the opportunity to watch the unloading and uncrating of the Infinti Essence concept car.  Why is it on a Nissan GT-R blog ? Lets look at it a little more and see if we see any future GT-R in it.

The concept car is reported to have a 3.7 liter direct injected twin turbo engine that puts out 432hp. The more interesting part is a electric motor that combined with a battery pack increases the vehicles output 158hp to 592hp.  Partial electric motor driven wheels, partial engine driven wheels. As weird as the concept may sound, it does actually work.

The direct injection engine is a good thing. The new Porsche 911 turbo is coming with a 500hp direct injected 3.8 liter engine. Direct injection is the way of the future, it makes more power, and is more fuel efficient. Like fuel injection in the 1980’s its still fairly new for vehicles, and tuning and aftermarket parts support for DIG(direct injection, gasoline) cars is in its infancy.   The 158 hp electric motors would be on tap for normal everyday driving. They would be powerful enough to move the car around on, and if needed, the DIG 3.7 would start up and really move the car.  Expect more of this concept to be reality than the otherway around.  Might we be looking at the R36 ?

The Infiniti Essence will be on display at the Louis Vuitton store in Carmel, California, on Tuesday. After the Concours d'Elegance, it will travel to Louis Vuitton stores in major U.S. cities, including Las Vegas, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles.

The future is only getting better, I am predicting 800 hp gas engine, with a 500 hp electric motor. Totally civilized, mid 9 seconds street car is not too far away. And it can cruise in EV mode in total silent!

That is pure sex!

That is such a beautiful car, I really wish Infiniti would rethink that and put it in production even with a "normal" GT-R engine.

This car is sooo cool. I love the fact that a luxury car can rock a twin-turbo hybrid power plant! Look at the cool box it comes in also.

So you think Nissan is going to intoduce a new model and discount to $11,500? You must be planning on getting ripped on your trade, probably a Prius because you hail from Portland, OR.
