New Porsche 911 Turbo - 10 seconds faster at Nurburgring

Porsche-911-turbo The new Porsche 911 turbo has improved its predecessor’s Nurburgring lap time by 10 seconds with a 7:39.   The new car is now 0.2 liters in displacement larger coming in at 3.8 liters with variable vane turbochargers.   Power is up 20 hp, and weight is down 50 lbs.   Still 12 seconds slower than Nissans claimed time of 7:27 for the 3.8 liter, twin turbo Nissan GT-R.

You should use the official lap times from german sports car magazine "sport auto" and not use laptimes by the manufacturers themselves.

True, but you really need to take every time with a grain of salt.

A particular time is what that car did, on that day, under those conditions. Other cars might be similar, might be slower, might be faster. You take all the info, and get an overall picture.

If a manufacture claimed a 0-60 time of 5 seconds, and some magazines get 6 seconds, and others get 5 seconds, which numbers are really right ? The car might be capable of a faster time, but on the day the guys ran 6 seconds, maybe the surface wasn't that good, maybe the drivers skill was lower.

Take it all with a grain of salt.
